If a new tape drive is released there is no guarantee that it will work with the application, and a new tape engine will likely be necessary to cater for the new model. This makes the tape engine very complex and unwiedly to support, and thus more prone to failures. Only programs such as UltraBac are truly compatible with Microsoft's tape driver design and "Plug and Play". With UltraBac, as long as the new tape drive ships with a Windows driver, it should work perfectly with the software.
With UltraBac it is not necessary to have a "compatibility list" because any tape drive that is compatible with the OS is compatible with UltraBac -- it can either be deemed compatible by being on Microsoft's HCL or compatibility may be assured by the manufacturer of the tape drive.
With an SPTI-based application, the compatibility can only be assured by the writer of the application because in effect they are including all of the logic for EVERY tape drive in their application and are unable to use the driver supplied and tested by Microsoft of the tape drive manufacturer.
If an incompatibility is discovered between a tape drive and UltraBac, the problem will normally be fixed by an update to the driver used by the tape drive. In very rare conditions eg the manufacturer has gone out of business, or no longer supports the unit , it can also be fixed within UltraBac by utilizing some special modification to the engine.

If you look under the mower in the engine area you should see the main pulley. The bottom belt is for the blades and the top belt is for the drive. Follow the top belt and see if it is broken or off another pulley somewhere. It could be the transaxle, a idler pulley, the pulley on the transaxle, a missing keyway in one of the wheels etc.

AYP who is the vendor for most Craftsman mowers has been "folded" into Husqvarna which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Electrolux and is now being separated from the parent, probably for tax reasons.
