The stream also has a 4K memory buffer and handles huge meg files, no problem. Classes in the OcDb represent the various data types that make up a drawing. At this time DrawGin is not going for ObjectARX compatibility, so member function names and signatures will not be the same.
Future blog entries will delve into the framework and implementation details. For now just wanted to post a quick status update. There is lots of source code to view at the project page, and if you are interested in contributing to DrawGin, let me know.
This blog will probably be a digital notebook of sorts containing code snippets, research, and misc thoughts. You don't need to worry about editing the registry on your 64 bit system. On my computer, the only two missing files were 'heidi3. I had already installed several programs by the time I got around to installing AutoCAD, including a 3D drafting program, so I'm not sure if there would be any other missing files on other systems, but the error messages you get when trying to run 'acad.
That would be the proper way to do it, but it's not really necessary, and you risk making your computer unusable if you don't know what you're doing. In that Autodesk forum I mentioned above, there was some discussion of replacing a file called 'SH31W I didn't have to do that for my XP Pro x64 installation.
Once I thought I had everything up and running, I tried using matchprop and got an error message that it was an unknown command.
After reloading it following the directions I've outlined above, it worked just fine. I haven't done much work on the new system, yet, but if I find anything else that needs to be done, I'll be sure to update this entry. Updated to include information on matchprop. So far, other than that, I haven't had any problems. Update - Well, there were a few more bugs than what I'd noticed originally, but commenters seem to have left some good solutions below.
I'll leave any more solutions up to commenters. Posted by Jeff on Tuesday, June 30, Permalink. That's cool that there is a work around. There are so many programs that don't work with XP64 on my desktop at home. I'll be switching to Windows 7 once it is out.
I ran a beta version on my laptop and liked it much better than Vista. So, I guess I haven't come out too bad from the switch. Posted by: Jeff July 2, PM.

We finally bought some Win7 computers at work, so I've now gotten some experience on the OS. There's actually a really handy way to run XP software, albeit not the most elegant. Install XP mode.
It adds a virtual machine to your computer that runs Windows XP. It seems just like a separate computer running in its own Window, although you can still access all the drives on the computer. We used it for some legacy software that we have that was buggy in Windows 7. If installing a Virtual PC sounds a bit intimidating, don't worry. It all installs pretty much automatically, and is very easy to use. Here's the link from Microsoft to download it, along with instructions.
I guess it's also worth mentioning that it's free. Posted by: Jeff November 9, AM. I understand many people have this complaint. I ,and I'm sure many other people, have archived drawings going back to R9. I don't expect to be able to save back to those formats.
Once the evaluation phase with a new release is complete and it is installed on all workstations all drawings that are touched by it are saved in the new version. The old backups under Land Project 3 are left under that heading. All our new backups will go on different CD's under the Land Projects heading. I think the problem comes from both ends.
Autodesk wants to maintain the 2 Release back policy and many people seem to have stagnated at the R14 level. Neither one is right or wrong. We just have to deal with the way it is.
If you want to be able to give your work to someone on r14 you will have to five them a R12DXF AND you will have to make sure you don't use any of the new features that won't save back that far.
Message 3 of 7. If you go to the AutoDesk web site you should be able to down load Batch Drawing Converter I'd look for the version that comes for and bellow it will allow you to save as or 14 - If you have the CD's for and Up I believe it on there already - Note Batch Drawing Converter for will only save as - or Message 4 of 7. Every once and a while you must update your archive to the latest version of your cad program.
If you don't, you will end up like NASA who has a cellar full of data wich cannot be read anymore since the program or computers were they were created with no longer exists. If you need an unchanged copy, save it in PDF format.
Compatibility cannot be an issue, your partners eventually will upgrade also. I know its a menace that older versions are dropped in autocad, but think of all the changes that are made since rel. Message 5 of 7.
If you still need the old versions, you buy conversion software that can take your DWG files as far back as you want.
